What is a Proxy Server?
A proxy server is a server that acts as an intermediary point of access between two different servers in the completion of a given task. Proxy servers are used for a number of purposes, but they are most commonly used for web connections and communication between long distances over networked computers. For example, imagine that someone is trying to access a website to shop for something that they need. Their computer would connect to the Internet, which is being accessed through a proxy server. The proxy server would complete the communication process between the person's computer and the host server that houses the website. When information is sent back to the person browsing the site, it is first passed through the proxy server, which then transmits the data to the individual on the private computer. The whole process is nearly instantaneous and helps to facilitate easy access to a wide range of sites.
